We acquired this wonderful nine acre property in 2014 in a huge state of neglect after the elderly owner was unable to take proper care of the large acreage.
After determining that the only way to clean the property up was hard graft and goats, we and the goats got stuck in.
Several years on and our menagerie has grown and our weeds and wilding pines have diminished leaving us with a delightful property swarming with relaxed and happy animals and birds. The goats have multiplied, the pheasants and quail chicks have hatched and native tui, kereru and bellbird abound, often flying in to have a bath in the birdbath on our deck.
We considered many options for our unique property, so close to the village of Havelock North and on the lower reaches of popular Te Mata Peak. This 400 metre local icon is surrounded by Te Mata Park and is home to beautiful walks and biking trails. It is in the top 10 tourist attractions in New Zealand and used daily by Hawke's Bay residents for recreational activities.
Eventually after exhausting many other options, we realised that the best option for our property was to subdivide and allow other families the chance to build, live in and enjoy this unique area.
The subdivision process has progressed well with two north/west facing 0.8 hectare (two acre) sites approved, developed and with all geo-technical requirements successfully completed. We have selectively cleared trees to open up the north-west vistas, however there are more trees needing to be felled in order to really appreciate the views from these sites.
Hastings District Council have approved the subdivision with connection to both fresh water and waste water reticulated services.
